eBay coupons published per month
2026Based on our publishing history, the months with the most eBay offers have been January, December, August. In October activity is low.
This chart counts the eBay coupons we have published each month, not the store's total discounts. The busiest months tend to be January, December, August.
On eBay the seller writes the terms and eBay only sets the floor
eBay is not a store, it is thousands of stores sharing one checkout, and that changes what a coupon is worth. Shipping cost, return window and who pays for the return label are all chosen by the seller who listed the item, so two identical products can carry completely different total costs with the same coupon applied to both. What eBay itself guarantees is a floor underneath all of them. Read the seller's terms first and apply the coupon second — reversing that order is how buyers end up holding a discount and an item they cannot send back.
eBay levers that outperform a coupon code
Five mechanics do more for the final price than the coupon field, and three of them exist only because this is a marketplace.
| Lever | What it gives you | How you use it | Alongside a coupon |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seller markdowns | A price cut the seller sets on the listing itself | Nothing to do; it is already in the asking price | Yes — a listing sale price and a checkout coupon are separate mechanisms |
| Best Offer | Direct negotiation on listings that enable it | Submit an offer instead of buying outright | Yes |
| eBay Refurbished | Inspected stock with a warranty serviced by Allstate: two years on Certified Refurbished, one year on the Excellent, Very Good and Good grades, registered automatically at purchase | Filter search results by item condition | Yes |
| Authenticity Guarantee | Physical inspection by specialists before the item is forwarded to you | Look for the badge, or add the optional service at checkout below the free threshold | Yes |
| Combined shipping | One shipping charge across several items from the same seller | Add to cart and request a combined total | Yes |
Shipping and returns change with every seller, and one deadline does not
Sellers pick their return terms from a published menu rather than writing their own: no returns accepted, 30 days with the buyer paying shipping, 30-day free returns, 60 days buyer-paid, 60-day free returns, or a 14-day window that is only available in a handful of categories such as Collectibles & Art, Jewelry, Digital Cameras, Camera Lenses, Camera Drones and Medical & Mobility. The badge on the listing states which one applies before you bid or buy, and a listing has to offer free returns of 30 days or longer, with handling of one day or faster, to carry the Top Rated Plus seal.
The number that never varies is the eBay Money Back Guarantee: contact the seller within 30 days of the actual or estimated delivery date when an item never arrived, arrived damaged or faulty, or does not match the listing, and the refund covers the purchase price plus the original shipping. That clock runs even on listings marked no returns, because a seller's return policy governs a change of mind, not a misdescription — change of mind is your risk, an inaccurate listing is eBay's problem. And when the item did arrive damaged, faulty or not as described, the seller pays the return shipping regardless of what the listing said.
In the authenticated categories the thresholds are precise. Handbags, wallets and select accessories listed at $500 or more are authenticated free; below that, eligible items from US sellers priced between $200 and $499.99 can have the service added for $40 plus tax. Watches in the Wristwatches and Pocket Watches categories are authenticated free from $2,000, and a buyer can add the service to a watch priced between $500 and $1,999.99 for $80 plus tax. All of this is platform policy rather than statute: the United States has no federal right to return an online purchase, which is exactly why the seller's own menu and the Money Back Guarantee floor carry so much weight here.
Why a live eBay coupon still fails at checkout
eBay coupons are written narrowly, and the terms rather than the expiry date are what usually block them. Whole categories are ruled out by default — Real Estate, Vehicles, Coins and Paper Money, Gift Cards and Coupons, NFTs, and both Men's and Women's Athletic Shoes — and the coupon itself can name further restrictions on top. Each one is linked to the eBay User ID it was issued to and works only on purchases made from that account, so an offer that landed in one account will not travel to another. It will not combine with a second coupon, a gift card, a voucher, a site discount, a rebate or any other promotion already attached to the order.
There is also a ceiling worth understanding before you build a big basket around one coupon. The offer states its own maximum discount, and any unused difference between what you actually saved and that maximum is forfeited rather than carried forward — which is why a large order can save proportionally less than the headline suggests. The full terms, including the end date, the minimum purchase and that maximum, sit with the coupon itself. Worth knowing as background: eBay retired its Bucks rewards program, so there is no site-wide loyalty currency to fall back on — the real alternative when a coupon fails is a Best Offer to the seller.
eBay discounting is seller-driven, with three site-wide windows
Because the inventory belongs to independent sellers, eBay has no markdown calendar in the retail sense. Prices soften where sellers compete, which happens hardest in categories with heavy supply: phones and laptops once a new model launches, sports cards after a season closes, seasonal gear the moment its season ends. Layered over that are the site-wide coupon windows eBay runs itself, which cluster around Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the mid-year summer stretch, and the post-holiday January period when returned and unwanted goods flood the listings — that January wave is the most underrated buying window on the site. For a specific item the practical tool is not a calendar at all: it is a saved search with alerts, plus the completed-listings filter, which shows what the thing actually sold for instead of what sellers are asking.
eBay against Amazon and Walmart on marketplace terms
| Term | eBay | Amazon | Walmart |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who writes the return terms | The seller, choosing from eBay's published menu | The platform on its own stock, each seller on marketplace listings | The platform on its own stock, each seller on marketplace listings |
| Return windows on offer | None, 14 days in limited categories, 30 days or 60 days, buyer-paid or free | One published platform window, plus whatever each marketplace seller sets | One published platform window, plus whatever each marketplace seller sets |
| Backstop when the listing was wrong | Money Back Guarantee: 30 days from actual or estimated delivery, refunding the price paid plus original shipping | The platform's own marketplace guarantee, opened from the order | The platform's own marketplace guarantee, opened from the order |
| Where the shipping charge comes from | The seller's listing, from free economy to calculated freight | The platform's shipping options for that item | The platform's shipping options for that item |
| Strongest on | Used, refurbished, discontinued and collectible stock | New goods delivered fast | Everyday new goods with store pickup |
When eBay is the wrong place: if you need a new, in-production item this week with one predictable return path, a platform that publishes a single policy settles it in one step, and eBay's per-seller variability costs more attention than it saves. eBay wins where the item is discontinued, used, refurbished or collectible — the categories where the alternative is not a cheaper price but no listing at all. For very low-cost new goods shipped direct from overseas factories, a marketplace such as AliExpress competes on price, with longer delivery times to weigh against it.
eBay Frequently Asked Questions
4 questionsWhere do I enter a coupon code on eBay?
At checkout, in the add-coupons or redeem-code field, before payment is confirmed. The order total updates on the same screen so you can see the discount land.
Where do I read the terms of a coupon I already hold?
In the voucher section of your My eBay summary. Each coupon lists its own code, end date, discount, any minimum purchase, the maximum discount and any extra restrictions attached to it, which is faster than testing it blind at checkout.
How often are these eBay coupons checked?
Daily. Each one is tested at eBay checkout and relabeled rather than deleted, so the page shows the live offers alongside the ones that have just stopped working.
An eBay coupon expired. Is it worth trying?
Pasting it costs nothing, and site-wide promotions occasionally run a little past their printed date. The steadier route is the offers with no code attached, which apply straight from the link.
